Welcome to
Temple Emanu-El

Temple is your safe, compassionate anchor in a tumultuous world. Every day creates a new opportunity to deepen our connections to one another, to the Jewish people and to God. We aren’t afraid to do the hard work of listening – even and especially through our conflicts. Here we’ve found home, where a shoulder, a hug, a laugh, a Jewish insight, a song, a thoughtful conversation or a high five are never far away.

Our Core Values

Prayer

Temple Emanu-El expresses its warm, welcoming personality through prayer experiences for all ages. Shabbat worship is the highlight of our week, where music lifts our souls, meditative moments bring us closer to our holy selves, and our clergy preach on important issues of the day.

In addition to our anchoring services in Stern Chapel on Friday nights and the Saturday morning “Lefkowitz Minyan,” you’ll find our community gathered in prayer at Tot Shabbat, All-In Shabbat, ATiD Late Night Shabbat and the Union Prayer Book service, periodic services designed for specific communities.

Learning

Whether adults are parsing Talmud with Rabbi David Stern or our little ones are digging in the dirt to learn about God’s creations, learning is part of Temple’s DNA. A robust roster of adult learning opportunities creates a beit midrash, a house of study – with everything from scholars-in-residence to classes with clergy to weekly yoga.

The Karla & Larry Steinberg Center for Jewish Learning offers opportunities for Sunday religious school in grades K-12, youth and teen engagement, Hebrew, the Lomdim inclusion program, youth travel and more. The Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC) prepares our youngest learners for a successful transition to grade school while building a nurturing community of families with the potential for lifelong friendships.

Social Justice and Advocacy

“Justice, justice, shall you pursue.” Deuteronomy 16:20
Since its very beginnings, Temple Emanu-El has served as a voice of conscience in the Dallas community and beyond. Wherever we see a world in need of repair – from helping immigrant families to feeding the hungry to preserving democratic principles to speaking up for a just society – Temple is there.

There are plenty of ways to get involved, including the Jill Stone Community Garden, our ongoing efforts with Dallas Area Interfaith, our legislative advocacy efforts and our support of many local nonprofit organizations. We can’t wait to welcome you to helping us make the world a better place.

Community

Our members are the heart and soul of Temple, with each sacred connection a step toward wholeness and holiness. Together we weather life’s storms, celebrate its joys and lean into challenges in our personal and communal lives. Join one of our thriving small groups or learn about our commitment to spiritual and emotional well-being. No matter your age or stage, there’s a place for you at Temple.

Israel

We embrace the people and thriving culture of Israel, through immersion in Israeli customs and traditions, learning and speaking the Hebrew language, culinary exploration, frequent travel and music of the moment. We also recognize that our congregation includes a range of opinions about the Israeli government and the conflict in Gaza, and we are committed to being a place of listening and seeking understanding through our differences.
