Madrichim News

We are fortunate to have two dedicated Madrichim coordinators, Julie Glover and Mark Satinsky, to work with and communicate with our Madrichim. Julie and Mark have lots of experience, being the parents of three teenage daughters themselves.

Our Madrichim are 11th and 12th graders who are committed to being at Temple each Sunday during Religious School. Madrichim are assigned to a specific teacher (or teachers in Hebrew) and have four primary roles:

Administrative Support - Doing those administrative tasks that enable to the teacher to focus on students' learning. Some examples are: pouring juice, taking kids to the office, etc.

Instructional Support - Helping the students to learn the content of the class. This may mean circulating around to the students as they are working on projects and asking them questions, trying to explain difficult ideas by using examples, analogies or charts.

Collaborative Feedback - Giving information to the teacher that can be used to improve instruction. For instance, if several students are confusing Jacob and Joseph, you can make sure the teacher knows so that the teacher can help to clarify the misunderstanding.

Personal Model (Dugma Ishit) - Madrichim model the behavior that the students should exhibit. If the Madrich sits and pays attention to the teacher, the other students will tend to so as well. Lead by example.

    What should I wear?
    Wear security/hospitality badge.
We will provide each of you with a personal security badge. You may choose to leave this badge at school and pick it up when you sign in, or you can take it with you. The important thing is to wear the badge. Even more then security, it is a hospitality badge and helps our parents and kids to learn each other's names. In a congregation our size, this is essential to creating a sense of community. So pleeeeze, wear your badges.

The bottom line is to look professional so the parents know who the students are and who the staff is. You are the staff; this is your opportunity to dress like it.

    Please use these guidelines:
Men should wear nice pants, khakis or the like. Nice jeans are acceptable, although nothing ratty. No shirts with writing on them. Collared shirts preferred.

Women should wear tops without writing. No spaghetti straps. Non-ratty pants. No short-shorts. Return to top >>
