Clergy Go to the Border
The week of February 19, Rabbis David Stern and Nancy Kasten will participate in a national clergy delegation to El Paso and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico with HIAS and T’ruah, Jewish human rights organizations with a shared interest in bringing Jewish wisdom, compassion and insight to the challenges of immigration on our southern border.
They will visit Annunciation House, a volunteer organization that offers hospitality to migrants, immigrants and refugees in El Paso. If you would like to donate items for Rabbis Stern and Kasten to bring to Annunciation House, please consider dropping off shoelaces, travel-sized toiletries, underwear, socks, razors, deodorant, conditioner and menstrual period supplies at the Temple reception desk by Friday, February 16 by 3 p.m.
We invite you to explore the HIAS and the Annunciation House websites to understand more deeply the important work they are doing. If you are inclined to offer financial support to either organization, you can make a gift to the Temple Emanu-El Disaster Relief Fund, and indicate the organization to which you would like it directed.
Rabbi Stern will be speaking about his experience on Feb. 23 at the Shabbat service focused on our partnership with HIAS as we join together in the vital and historic Jewish work of welcoming the stranger. We hope to see you then.
