Youth Learning + Engagement, or YL+E, is Temple Emanu-El's home for families with school-aged children. Our welcoming, diverse community creates opportunities for involvement for the whole family, as well as each individual member. Our excellent Religious and Hebrew school programs, engaging family worship experiences, welcoming youth and teen engagement communities, informative “In the Know” parent education series, commitment to social justice, and award-winning inclusion program, “Lomdim,” ensure that there truly is something for everyone. YL+E is an integral partner to parents in raising Jewish youth and inspiring them to grow into Jewishly connected mensches who bring chesed (kindness), rachamim (compassion), and tzedek (justice) into everything they do. At YL+E programs, youth and teens create relationships with each other and with adult role models (including Temple’s clergy and our phenomenal faculty) and use those connections to explore Jewish life. Youth and teens engage in meaning making and personal exploration as they learn to see life through Jewish lenses and explore how Judaism intersects with their personal interests.
Our premier small-group Religious and Hebrew school programs create the type of environment where this exploration thrives. Small group learning allows for deeper relationship building, more individualized instruction, and flexibility to focus on the specific interests of our students. Interest-based electives broaden the perspectives of our youth and teens through experiential education that focus on the rich connections between the Jewish tradition and our modern, daily lives. Through t’filah (worship), youth and teens are given space to pray, tools to learn to pray, and opportunities for spiritual connection. With parents as our partners, we form strong Jewish foundations upon which our youth and teens will draw from and add to for the rest of their lives. We look forward to getting to know you and your family as we take this journey together! Register Here for the 2021-2022 Program.
